Music (PB)

One of my passions is Music. I listen to music all the time; I listen to music when I’m home, when I’m on the train, when I’m playing games, and when I’m doing homework. I’m even listening to music while I’m writing this blog. I like listening to music for different reasons. I like music that gets me hyped, that is relaxing, that I can dance to, music with cool beats, etc. Although I like listening to music when I do work, I sometimes become distracted by the music because I can’t resist singing.

One of my favorite genre of music to listen to is hip hop/rap. Rap is one of my favorite genre of music because I like the lyricism, the rhymes, the metaphors, and the meanings behind the song. Some of my favorite artists are Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Logic, Kanye West, J Cole, Childish Gambino, outkast, Kid Cudi, and others

My favorite rapper is Eminem. Some of my favorite songs by him are Stan, Lose Yourself, Toy soldiers, cleaning out my closet, rap god, my name is, the real slim shady, and others. I like Eminem because his lyrics are fire and he doesn’t care what he says or who he offends. On “The Real Slim Shady” he offends celebrities. “So you can, sit me here next to Britney Spears? Yo Shit, Christina Aguilera better switch me chairs So I can sit next to Carson Daly and Fred Durst And hear 'em argue over who she gave head to first.” Eminem says what’s own his mind; he has no filter. However, not all of Eminem’s songs are bashing celebrities and the media. One of his best songs is lose yourself from the 8 mile soundtrack. “His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy / There's vomit on his sweater already: mom's spaghetti / He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready / To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgetting / What he wrote down.” This was one of his best songs and Eminem won a Grammy for this song.

Eminem is one of the greatest rappers of all times. He has one 13 Grammys and he is the first artist to win best rap album for three consecutive LPs. He is also the highest selling rapper of all time and the bestselling artist of the decade. In my opinion Eminem is a “Rap God”.

AP Englsh (CRR)

In AP literature we have been reading the plays, The Taming of The Shrew, Electra, and A Raisin in the Sun. These plays are a part of our feminism unit. We have been studying how the authors of the plays use figurative language to display gender roles in their plays. We also worked in groups to act out the plays using the scripts that we made. I liked acting out the plays because I got a better understanding of the plays, especially the ones with old text, like Electra. Making our own scripts using modern language made the plays easy to interpret. Also this unit gave me more information about feminism. Before I only had a basic understanding of feminism and now I have more knowledge on the topic.

In addition to learning about feminism, we had to memorize and recite a sonnet to the class. At first I thought that it would be difficult to memorize a sonnet, but it turned out it was easier than I thought. I found that memorizing the sonnet made it easier to interpret. I believe that this project and reading other poems in class has made me get better at analyzing poems. Before we read all these poems in class I was bad with poems, I used to hate reading poems because it was hard to find the meaning and to write essays dealing with the analysis of poems. Now I am starting to like poems more and I feel more comfortable with writing essays dealing with the analysis of poems.

Christmas (FC)

Christmas is almost here; it will be Christmas in 15 days. Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. Mostly because you get presents and we have a break from school. I also like Christmas because “it’s the most wonderful time of the year.” During this time of year TV shows do special holiday episodes and classic holiday movies are on like “how the Grinch stole Christmas”, “home alone”, “grandma got run over by a reindeer”, “the nightmare before Christmas”, and more. Out of all the Christmas movies I have watched, “grandma got run over by a reindeer” is my favorite. I remember watching it every year when it came on TV.

I remember when I was little and it was Christmas Eve. I couldn’t wait until it was Christmas, I was so excited. My cousins and I would try to stay up late to see if we could Santa Clause, but we always fell asleep. I remember waking up earlier than anyone else and going to look at the gifts under the Christmas tree. I was so excited and couldn’t wait until everyone else woke up to open the presents.

Another part about Christmas time that I like is there is no school. We get a break from all the work and we get about a week and a half of relaxation. We don’t have to worry about nothing or do work. It is not until the day before we go back to school that I do my homework.

 

AP Bio (ID)

I am in AP biology and for the past week we have been learning about cellular respiration. Before we started the chapter we had to read a couple of pages on our own and study some of the key terms for a vocabulary quiz. Also for this chapter and other chapters we answer objectives which are questions based on what we read in the chapter. This prepares us for what we are going to be discussing about in class.

But getting back to cellular respiration we are learning about the three stages that are responsible for the harvesting of energy from glucose. Which are glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation and the citric acid cycle, and electron transport and chemiosmosis. To understand the function and the way the stages work we draw the diagrams that are in the book and we write our own explanations for them. After drawing the diagrams and writing our own explanations for them, we have to read what we wrote out loud. I like doing this because I get a better understanding of what we are learning, but I don’t like the drawing aspect of it since I am not a good drawer. When I draw the diagrams it looks nothing like the diagrams in the book.

We are currently making a book out of constructing paper about cellular respiration and the three stages. We have to include diagrams and explanations of the diagrams in the book. We will use the book to study for an upcoming cellular respiration quiz.

 

Furious 7 Trailer (SSR)

I recently just watched the trailer for the new “The Fast and The Furious Movie”, “Furious 7.” I have always been a fan of “The Fast and The Furious” franchise. I have been a fan of the franchise since the first movie came out in 2001. I remember watching the movie in the movie theater and being amazed by the cool cars and the racing.

After watching the “Furious 7” trailer I can’t wait for the movie to come out. The trailer was amazing and breathtaking. The trailer has everything I look forward to in a fast and furious movie. It has action, cool cars, and a cool story. The trailer has the main characters parachuting their cars out of a plane, Paul Walker jumping off a bus as it is falling off a cliff, the rock fighting some bad guys, racing, and more. I am also excited about the movie because it has one of the biggest action stars, Jason Statham, in the movie playing the antagonist. Jason Statham has been in action movies such as the expendables, crank, death race, and the transporter.

Although the Furious 7 trailer was amazing and breathtaking, I had one question after watching the trailer. I wanted to know what was going to happen to Paul Walker’s character, Brian in the movie since Paul Walker died. At first I heard that they were going to kill off his character then I heard they were going to get his brother to play Brian since they look alike. Whatever they decide to do with Paul Walker’s character I hope the movie is good.

The Patriots (PB)

My favorite sport is football. Since I was a little kid I always liked watching football. I liked how the whole game was entertaining. I was never bored when I watched football because every play was action packed and exciting. I remember going to super bowl parties and people would scream at every play. There was never a moment in a football game where people never screamed.

Something I am passionate about is the Patriots. The Patriots is a football team in the NFL. In my opinion the Patriots is the best football team in the NFL. One of the main reasons why I like the Patriots is because of their quarterback Tom Brady. I became a fan of the Patriots after I used them in a madden game and won. After winning with the Patriots I watched them play a game and I liked them. I thought they were a really good team and I instantly became a fan of them and Tom Brady.

To me Tom Brady is the best quarterback in the league. He has led the patriots to three super bowl victories and he is the fourth quarterback in NFL history to do this. He is also the only quarterback in history to lead three game winning drives in the super bowl. He is a two time NFL MVP and a 12 time patriot’s team captain. Under the leadership of Tom Brady the patriots was the fist team in NFL history to complete a regular season undefeated after the regular season was changed to 16 games. They lost in the super bowl to the New York Giants and there record was 18-1.  Although people try to hate on the Patriots and say they are trash, they are the most entertaining team in the NFL.

Writing Essays (CRR)

For the past couple of days we have been working on writing an essay for the AP exam. In class we were given back the essays that we wrote about Mosses. We learned that we should pre-write before we write our essay and we created a mind map based on the passage.  Then we were given a packet of other people’s essays about Mosses. We had to read every essay and give them a grade based on the rubric that is used to grade the essays on the AP exam. After that we had to create our own rubric based on what the graders are looking for in the Mosses essay.

Rubrics are useful because they help you write your essay, but I don’t use it. When I’m given a rubric on how my project or essay should be I don’t refer to the rubric. I have seen a number of different rubrics and none of them have helped me with my writing. In my opinion rubrics are useless and a waste of paper. I know what my essay needs to have in order for it to get a high score, but when I write my essays I never get the highest grade. When I read essays that got the highest grade possible, I know my essays won’t be like that. They write like five pages in 45 minutes and the way those essays are written it is like a teacher wrote it.

I don’t like creating our own rubrics in class because it is difficult. It is hard to write what a good essay needs compare to an excellent one and a bad one. I also don’t see the point of us creating our own rubrics. It is not like it is going to help us write our essays or make us look at rubrics more when we’re writing our essays.
