English Novels (CRR)

In English class we have been reading the Heart of Darkness for a while. Before going on spring break we finally finished reading it. I was happy that we were done with that book. There were numerous words in the book that I didn’t know that I had to look up. Every page there would be a few words that I had to stop reading and define. Another thing I didn’t like about the book was it was difficult to understand. There was some parts in the book that I didn’t know who Marlow, the main character, was talking to. However, one thing I like about the book is its perspective on colonization. This book was kind of interesting because I never read a book from the point of view of the colonizers. I only read books from the point of the people being colonized or the point of view of the slaves.

Now in English class we are reading Beloved by Toni Morrison. This book, like The Heart of Darkness, is about slavery. However, this book is from the perspective of a slave named Sethe. I like the book so far. The book is interesting and it is easier to understand than the Heart of Darkness. It will also be interesting to see the similarities and the differences between the two books and their take on slavery.

AP lit (CRR)

In AP literature we have been reading the book, The Heart of Darkness. It has been very challenging reading it. One thing that is difficult about it reading it is its vocabulary. Most of the words that are in the book I haven’t seen before like ostentation and despondency. Another thing that is difficult about the book is the text. Sometimes it is kind of hard to understand what the book is saying.

Another thing we been doing is grammar rules on noredink. I like this one better than the old grammar rules we use to do because I remember the things it teaches us. I also like how it incorporates are interest into the questions.

South Park (FC)

For this free choice blog I really don’t know what to write about, so I am just going to talk about comedy. One thing I find funny is comedy that is outrageous and that doesn’t care about the consequences of what they say. Some of my favorite comedy shows are South Park, Tosh.O, The Chappelle show, it’s always sunny in Philadelphia, and blue mountain state.

I decided to write about comedy shows because I was watching some South Park videos on YouTube of the funniest moments and I found it hilarious. One thing that makes South Park funny is the characters. Some of their funniest characters are Carman, Butters, Randy Marsh, Towelie, and Mr. garrison. One thing that I like about South Park is they don’t care about who they offend. They make fun of celebrities, politics, and social issues. One of my favorite episodes is when Butters was a pimp. One thing that made this episode funny is Butters is a little kid and he is really naïve. At first it started off with him hiring girls his age to kiss boys on the playground for money. Then as his business grew he asked real pimps for advice and he stole some of their prostitutes. Another thing that made this episode funny was the words he used and the way he used it. He used words like “bottom bitch” and the pimps were telling butters that he has to hit his prostitutes to earn their respect.

Overall South Park is a funny show. A majority of their episodes are funny and sometimes they start off normal then they get really weird. If you haven’t watched South Park I suggest that you watch it.

Economics (ID)

In economics we have been learning about the United States economy and some terminology that has to do with economy. For instance, consumer, producer, and resource. Before taking this class I knew a little bit about the economy and how it works. This was because I took economics when I was in middle school, but I didn’t know much about the U.S economy.

In Economics we have been learning about the type of system we have, which is a free enterprise system. This system is when a nation’s economic decisions are the result of individual decisions by buyers and sellers in the marketplace. We have also learned the common features of economic systems and the questions that each of them must respond to. Yesterday we learned about the principles of the free enterprise system. The six main principles are freedom to choose our employment, right to private property, profit motive, competition, consumer sovereignty, and freedom of contract.

In the past month that we have been taking economics I have learned a lot of things I never knew. There are still some things I don’t know about the United States economy that I want to know and I feel like I am going to learn all about it in this class.

Super Bowl XLIX (SSR)

I agree with this article about what it said about Tom Brady being the greatest and the game being good. Last Sunday was the greatest event of the year, Super Bowl XLIX. The thing that made this Super Bowl good was that my favorite team, The New England Patriots, was in it. This was another chance for Tom Brady to get his fourth Super Bowl win. The Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2015 under head coach Bill Belichick and Quarterback Tom Brady. In my opinion after this super bowl win Tom Brady is the number 1 QB. He is among the legend Joe Montana for four Super Bowl rings and other legends with three Super Bowl MVPs. He also surpassed Joe Montana’s record with 11 Super Bowl touchdown passes.

The article is write, the Super Bowl was a good game; I was at the edge of my seat. Throughout the entire game I was scared that the Seahawks were going to win because the Patriots defense wasn’t able to stop the Seahawks offense. Especially against Marshawn “Beast mode” Lynch. Every time he got the ball he gained major yards.

Reading the article made me remember the play I hated the most. The play that got me really upset was when the Seahawks receiver, Jermaine Kearse, caught the ball on the ground after it bounced off his body. After that play I was screaming because I thought it was over for the Patriots. There was only 1:06 remaining in the quarter after that catch, then Lynch ran the ball for 4 yards bringing them to second and goal with 20 seconds remaining. After seeing that I thought the Patriots loss because the Seahawks could have given it to lynch to score and win the game, but instead the head coach of the Seahawks, Pete Carrol, decided to throw it. This lead to the interception by the Patriot’s rookie cornerback Malcom Butler. This play got me excited and I was in my house screaming mad loud because my team won the Super Bowl. There was people who said the Patriots suck and that they were going to lose, but look what happened. The Patriots came back with the clutch for the win.

This was the greatest Super Bowl because there was a lot of twists. It was way better than the last Super Bowl with the Broncos and the Seahawks. After this Super Bowl the Patriots are the greatest team and Tom Brady is the greatest QB to ever play the game.

Music (PB)

One of my passions is Music. I listen to music all the time; I listen to music when I’m home, when I’m on the train, when I’m playing games, and when I’m doing homework. I’m even listening to music while I’m writing this blog. I like listening to music for different reasons. I like music that gets me hyped, that is relaxing, that I can dance to, music with cool beats, etc. Although I like listening to music when I do work, I sometimes become distracted by the music because I can’t resist singing.

One of my favorite genre of music to listen to is hip hop/rap. Rap is one of my favorite genre of music because I like the lyricism, the rhymes, the metaphors, and the meanings behind the song. Some of my favorite artists are Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Logic, Kanye West, J Cole, Childish Gambino, outkast, Kid Cudi, and others

My favorite rapper is Eminem. Some of my favorite songs by him are Stan, Lose Yourself, Toy soldiers, cleaning out my closet, rap god, my name is, the real slim shady, and others. I like Eminem because his lyrics are fire and he doesn’t care what he says or who he offends. On “The Real Slim Shady” he offends celebrities. “So you can, sit me here next to Britney Spears? Yo Shit, Christina Aguilera better switch me chairs So I can sit next to Carson Daly and Fred Durst And hear 'em argue over who she gave head to first.” Eminem says what’s own his mind; he has no filter. However, not all of Eminem’s songs are bashing celebrities and the media. One of his best songs is lose yourself from the 8 mile soundtrack. “His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy / There's vomit on his sweater already: mom's spaghetti / He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready / To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgetting / What he wrote down.” This was one of his best songs and Eminem won a Grammy for this song.

Eminem is one of the greatest rappers of all times. He has one 13 Grammys and he is the first artist to win best rap album for three consecutive LPs. He is also the highest selling rapper of all time and the bestselling artist of the decade. In my opinion Eminem is a “Rap God”.

AP Englsh (CRR)

In AP literature we have been reading the plays, The Taming of The Shrew, Electra, and A Raisin in the Sun. These plays are a part of our feminism unit. We have been studying how the authors of the plays use figurative language to display gender roles in their plays. We also worked in groups to act out the plays using the scripts that we made. I liked acting out the plays because I got a better understanding of the plays, especially the ones with old text, like Electra. Making our own scripts using modern language made the plays easy to interpret. Also this unit gave me more information about feminism. Before I only had a basic understanding of feminism and now I have more knowledge on the topic.

In addition to learning about feminism, we had to memorize and recite a sonnet to the class. At first I thought that it would be difficult to memorize a sonnet, but it turned out it was easier than I thought. I found that memorizing the sonnet made it easier to interpret. I believe that this project and reading other poems in class has made me get better at analyzing poems. Before we read all these poems in class I was bad with poems, I used to hate reading poems because it was hard to find the meaning and to write essays dealing with the analysis of poems. Now I am starting to like poems more and I feel more comfortable with writing essays dealing with the analysis of poems.
